French Embassy in London

Marion Leboyer (Scientific Director of PEPR PROPSY, Director of the Fondation FondaMental), Didier Samuel (Chief Executive Officer of Inserm) and Rachel Upthegrove MBE (Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford, Director of the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research)), were present on October 27 at the French Embassy in London for the signing of a Franco-British agreement on biomarkers for mental illness.

Precision psychiatry is characterized by the use of biomarkers:

  • diagnostic biomarkers to improve early diagnosis,
  • stratification biomarkers to identify homogeneous patient subgroups,
  • prognostic biomarkers to predict the progression of mental illness in a patient.

They serve as evaluation criteria to improve the effectiveness of clinical trials and treatments.

The Franco-British Consortium aims to cross-reference large-scale British and French cohorts to develop objective, measurable, and quantifiable biomarkers, reducing diagnostic heterogeneity, improving understanding of mechanisms, and enabling the development of targeted treatments.

Better diagnosis and treatment will enable us to:

  • Reduce direct and indirect costs.
  • Develop a new industrial sector.

One step closer to precision, innovative, and personalized psychiatry for every patient!
