Strengthening Franco-German cooperation to accelerate the development of precision psychiatry in Europe

At the DGBP & AGNP Congress, held on May 8, 2026, in Berlin, Prof. Marion Leboyer, psychiatrist, scientific director of the PEPR PROPSY program, and executive director of the Fondation FondaMental, delivered a keynote address on the French precision psychiatry research program PEPR PROPSY, co-led by Inserm and the CNRS, as part of France 2030.

This presentation also marked the launch of a new cooperative initiative between the 54 Expert Centers coordinated by the Fondation FondaMental and the German Centers of Excellence of the DZPG. The shared goal is to move toward a more personalized approach to psychiatry, based on the identification of homogeneous patient subgroups and a better understanding of the underlying biological mechanisms.

This partnership aims to strengthen scientific collaboration at the European level, promote the sharing of expertise and research data on biomarkers, and develop translational projects with high clinical potential.

Among the work presented was Bruno Pedraz’s research on the immunological and proteomic profiling of mental illnesses. These approaches involve analyzing immune markers and proteins present in the body to better characterize biological differences among patients, identify new therapeutic targets, and pave the way for more tailored treatments.

This collaboration opens up significant opportunities to accelerate European mental health research, stimulate biomedical innovation, and advance care pathways toward increasingly precise and personalized medicine.
