Precision Psychiatry Takes Center Stage at the World Congress of Neuropsychopharmacology

At the 37th World Congress of Neuropsychopharmacology (CINP), held in Glasgow, Marion Leboyer, Scientific Director of PEPR PROPSY, delivered a plenary lecture on precision psychiatry.

Titled “Towards Precision Psychiatry: The Example of Immune Dysfunctions in Major Psychiatric Disorders,” her presentation focused on the role of immune dysfunction in major psychiatric disorders and its potential to better characterize individuals affected by these conditions.

Research has shown that immune system abnormalities are present in some individuals, but not in all. Several mechanisms—including autoimmunity, chronic inflammation, immunometabolism, the gut microbiome, and endogenous retroviruses—may therefore help identify subgroups beyond traditional diagnostic categories.

This approach is one of the key areas of focus of PEPR PROPSY. Drawing in particular on the French Minds cohort and on the integration of clinical, biological, genetic, environmental, and imaging data, the program aims to improve our understanding of disease heterogeneity and support the development of more personalized diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

This ambition lies at the heart of precision psychiatry: better identifying the mechanisms at work so that, in the future, the right treatment can be offered to the right person at the right time.
