The exploratory research program in precision psychiatry PEPR PROPSY was launched on July 18, 2022, by Sylvie Retailleau, Minister of Higher Education and Research at that time.
“On the theme of mental health, the PROPSY project led by INSERM and CNRS, whose laboratory I had the opportunity to visit a few days ago in Créteil, aims to deploy precision medicine in psychiatry, for the four most disabling disorders: bipolar disorders, major depressive disorders, schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorders. Challenges include diagnostic biomarkers, understanding mechanisms and therapy. We have asked the project leader to include a special focus on the mental health of young people. To develop precision psychiatry, we will be drawing on our leading national scientific and medical strengths: Inserm, CNRS, the Fondation FondaMental, CEA, Sorbonne University, the University of Bordeaux, the University of Lille, the University of Paris and the University of Paris Est Créteil.”
On this day, the Minister announced the 13 winners of the AAP Priority Projects and Equipment for Exploratory Research (PEPR).
The PROPSY program was selected by the international jury and awarded a 5-year budget of 80 million euros.
“We are proud that our research program has been selected by the Government. At a time when mental health has deteriorated as a result of the health crisis, this is an extremely important decision that brings hope to millions of patients and their families, as well as to researchers and caregivers,” declared Gilles Bloch, CEO of Inserm, and Marion Leboyer, Executive Director of the Fondation FondaMental. The latter hailed a “historic success for psychiatric research.”
For Jean-Luc Dubois-Randé, President of UPEC, “This investment in psychiatric research is ambitious, and in line with the challenges represented by mental health.”
