Digital Innovation and Artificial Intelligence in Psychiatry: Challenges, Advances, and Prospects

PEPR PROPSY is organizing PsyTech 2026, a national event dedicated to digital innovation and artificial intelligence in psychiatry, held under the High Patronage of Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, and under the patronage of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the French Ministry of Health, Families, Autonomy and Persons with Disabilities, and the Hauts-de-France Regional Council.

This one-day event, organized in partnership with PEPR PROPSY Digital Health, will bring together researchers, clinicians, industry leaders, public institutions, investors, and representatives of people with lived experience of mental health conditions. Its ambition is to unite these stakeholders around the development and implementation of a strong French ecosystem for digital psychiatry.

Objectives of the event:
  • Identify the scientific, regulatory, economic, and organizational barriers currently slowing the development and adoption of digital innovations in psychiatry.
  • Foster collaboration among researchers, clinicians, industry, public institutions, investors, patient representatives, and individuals with lived experience.
  • Promote public-private partnerships to accelerate innovation and ensure equitable access to new technologies.
  • Strengthen the attractiveness of psychiatry for innovation and investment stakeholders.
  • Advance practical, evidence-based, interoperable, and scalable digital solutions for research and clinical care.
  • Contribute to the development of a shared national strategy for digital innovation and artificial intelligence in psychiatry.

In preparation for the event, several thematic working groups brought together experts from academia, healthcare, industry, government, and patient organizations to address the key challenges involved in building this emerging ecosystem. Topics included health data and digital phenotyping, artificial intelligence and clinical development, evaluation, regulation, business models, scaling, and integration into clinical practice. Their preliminary findings will be presented during the event and will contribute to the development of a National White Paper on Digital Innovation and Artificial Intelligence in Psychiatry.

  • Startup pitch sessions.
  • Speed networking meetings between industry, innovation hubs, and academic stakeholders.
  • Closing remarks by Mr. Xavier Bertrand, President of the Hauts-de-France Regional Council.

Startups

Callyope is developing a clinical AI platform dedicated to psychiatry, designed to support healthcare teams caring for patients with severe mental health disorders.

Its proprietary AI model is specifically trained on the unique characteristics of psychiatric language and speech, enabling greater reliability than general-purpose models. The platform combines documentation agents, which automate the creation of clinical summaries, medical reports, and correspondence, with clinical agents that provide objective data on patients’ progress. The platform notably includes CallyoVoice, a medical device capable of assessing symptom severity from just 30 seconds of speech. Callyope also aims to further develop this technology for remote patient monitoring.

The solution is sovereign and secure, with AI developed in-house, HDS-certified hosting, and ISO 27001 certification. It is already deployed across healthcare institutions in France.

Dalia is a medtech company founded in 2023 that develops digital medical devices for psychiatry, with an initial focus on depression. The company uses digital phenotyping, an approach that involves analyzing behavioral and physiological data collected passively via smartphones and connected devices, as well as active data from clinical questionnaires.

Using artificial intelligence algorithms, Dalia identifies digital biomarkers that enable the early detection of first depressive episodes, monitor treatment adherence, and predict relapses in real time. Its solutions provide healthcare professionals with a continuous and objective view of patients’ condition between appointments, facilitating earlier, more personalized, and more responsive care.

By integrating these technologies into the care pathway, Dalia aims to improve the quality of psychiatric care, reduce the risk of relapse, and optimize clinical outcomes while enhancing quality of life.

Manitty is a French DeepTech company founded in 2021 that specializes in neurotechnologies, digital medical devices, and artificial intelligence applied to healthcare.

Based in Lyon and founded by graduates of the École Polytechnique, it develops multimodal bio-monitoring solutions that measure and analyze physiological, cognitive, and neurophysiological states in real-world conditions. Its technologies, designed in collaboration with CNRS researchers and clinicians, are used in research, mental health, and hospital monitoring.

As a recipient of funding from several innovation programs (i-Lab, NATO DIANA, France 2030), Manitty aims to advance medical neurotechnologies to improve prevention, diagnosis, and follow-up care for those affected.

Founded in 2018 by graduates of the École Polytechnique, Poppins is a company specializing in the development of rehabilitation tools for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. In particular, it is developing the digital medical device (DMD) of the same name, which takes the form of a video game that helps children with dyslexia improve their reading fluency—the primary indicator of this disorder.

This DMN has received a favorable opinion from the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS) for early intervention and is now covered by the French national health insurance system under the PECAN program.
