A Scientific Visit Focused on Metabolic Psychiatry
From March 17 to 19, 2026, Professor Brenda Penninx (Amsterdam UMC), a specialist in psychiatric epidemiology and an expert in the analysis of large longitudinal cohorts, visited the Fondation FondaMental to meet with the teams and researchers working on the French Minds cohort. This meeting was part of a broader effort to foster scientific collaboration in metabolic psychiatry, a rapidly growing field of research exploring the links between metabolic dysfunction and psychiatric disorders.
Presentations focused on biological mechanisms
The program centered on several scientific sessions bringing together researchers from the PEPR PROPSY. The topics covered major areas of current research, including sleep disorders, metabolic syndrome, metabolomics approaches, and mitochondrial dysfunction. These presentations shed light on the biological mechanisms involved in psychiatric disorders and opened up new avenues for research.
Meaningful Scientific Exchanges
Beyond the presentations, the visit provided opportunities for in-depth discussions. The launch of the Cohort Club was a key moment, aimed at fostering collaboration around research cohorts. A general discussion with Professor Penninx also allowed for the sharing of expertise and insights on the challenges and prospects of metabolic psychiatry.
A strengthened interdisciplinary approach
This visit highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in the field of psychiatry. By drawing on expertise from biology, medicine, and data science, the research presented contributed to a better understanding of the complexity of mental disorders and the development of innovative research strategies.
