This call for proposals aims to fund research projects in the field of precision psychiatry, specifically:
✔️ Preclinical studies aimed at deepening our understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying clinically homogeneous forms or clinical transnosographical dimensions of interest to the PEPR PROPSY.
✔️ Clinical studies aimed at identifying and/or validating unimodal and multimodal biomarkers for diagnostic, predictive, or prognostic stratification in existing cohorts or databases (national or international).
✔️ Clinical trials aimed at testing targeted therapeutic strategies in homogeneous patient subgroups.
✔️ Joint research projects (ranging from preclinical aspects to clinical application and/or industrialization) to support precision psychiatry at the interface between basic research, clinical research, and patient care.
The total budget for this call for proposals is approximately €9,600,000.

Projects must focus on one of the following themes :
1️⃣ Preclinical studies
The goal of this research area is to fund preclinical studies (animal models, organoids, iPSCs, etc.) aimed at exploring the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the disorders targeted by the PEPR PROPSY program. Studies may focus on the dimensions explored in the French Minds cohort and/or on the identified clinically homogeneous subtypes.
The amount of funding allocated to each project will range from 500 000€ to 800 000€, with the total amount allocated for this research area estimated at approximately 3 million€. Public and/or private co-funding, whether national or international, is encouraged.
Project duration will range from 24 to 48 months.
2️⃣ Clinical studies
This research area will fund projects aimed at identifying and/or validating single- or multimodal biomarkers using existing or developing databases, and/or conducting clinical trials to test and/or validate therapeutic strategies targeted at homogeneous patient subgroups, with the goal of contributing to the development of precision psychiatry.
Biomarkers may be diagnostic, prognostic, or predictive (e.g., blood-based, digital, imaging, electrophysiological, clinical, or cognitive biomarkers) derived from the literature and/or from work conducted within targeted projects of the PEPR PROPSY program and/or international precision psychiatry projects. In this context, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning is encouraged.
The purpose of clinical trials will be to test and/or validate stratification, predictive, or prognostic biomarkers and/or to evaluate the efficacy, in homogeneous subgroups of patients, of targeted therapeutic strategies: pharmacological treatments, neurostimulation, digital tools, lifestyle interventions, and psychobehavioral therapies.
Projects may also focus on:
✔️ in silico clinical trials, defined as numerical simulations based on existing clinical and/or biological data, aimed at virtually testing and comparing therapeutic strategies or devices before their implementation in traditional clinical trials,
✔️ new analytical methods such as AI.
The amount of funding allocated to each project will range from 800 000€ to 1.5 million€, with the total amount allocated for this priority area estimated at approximately 3.5 million€. Public and/or private co-funding, whether national or international, is encouraged.
Projects will last between 36 and 48 months.
3️⃣ Mixed studies
This priority area aims to support precision psychiatry projects that include both a preclinical and a clinical component and have the potential for translational impact.
Eligible projects should enable:
✔️ the translation or validation of mechanisms, biomarkers, multimodal signatures, or therapeutic targets identified in preclinical studies into human populations,
✔️ or conversely, promote the development of preclinical models derived from clinical observations.
Interdisciplinary approaches and the involvement of patient organizations are encouraged.
Projects may include, in particular:
✔️ Cross-analyses of data from human cohorts and experimental models;
✔️ Clinical trials in precision psychiatry with mechanisms based therapeutic strategies for subgroups of patients
✔️ The development or adaptation of analytical pipelines, including artificial intelligence, multimodal data analysis, etc.;
✔️ In silico studies;
✔️ The development of technology applied to clinical research (digital tools, therapeutic devices, etc.)
✔️ Validation of uni/bi/multimodal biomarkers (blood based, brain imaging, electrophysiology, digital…) towards precision diagnostic, precision, prediction
The project must focus on the categorical entities of interest to the PEPR PROPSY (bipolar disorders, psychotic disorders, recurrent depression, autism spectrum disorders) and may address transdiagnostic dimensions and/or homogeneous clinical forms of the aforementioned conditions. Transdiagnostic projects will be viewed favorably.
The research projects sought must be collaborative, involving at least two different French research institutions. The amount of funding allocated to each project will range from 800 000€ to 2 million€, with the total amount allocated for this priority area estimated at approximately 3.1 million€. Public and/or private co-funding, whether national or international, is encouraged.
Project duration will range from 36 to 48 months.
⚠️ Applications that do not meet the eligibility criteria will not be submitted to the evaluation committee and will under no circumstances be eligible for funding.
The application package must be submitted in full through the ANR submission platform before the deadline specified in the call for proposals. In addition, the signed and scanned administrative and financial document from each partner institution must be uploaded to the ANR platform by the date and time indicated on page 3.
The scientific proposal must strictly follow the template provided on the call website and must be submitted as an unprotected PDF file.
Project duration must be:
✔️ Between 24 and 48 months for the pre-clinical track;
✔️ Between 36 and 48 months for the clinical and mixed tracks.
The requested funding amount must be:
✔️ A minimum of €500,000 and a maximum of €800,000 for the pre-clinical studies;
✔️ A minimum of €800,000 and a maximum of €1,500,000 for the clinical studies;
✔️ A minimum of €800,000 and a maximum of €2,000,000 for the mixed studies.
The same project leader may submit only one project.
The coordinating institution must be a French higher education and research institution, a research organization, or a scientific cooperation foundation.
For projects under the clinical and mixed tracks, research projects must be collaborative and involve at least two distinct French research entities.

The complete application package consists of two fully completed documents:
1️⃣ The Scientific Document, with a maximum length of 15 pages, written in English and describing the proposed project in accordance with the template provided, including as an appendix the list of scientific publications produced over the last three years by the researchers and/or teams submitting the proposal;
2️⃣ The Administrative and Financial Document, containing the administrative and budgetary information relating to the project.
The application documents (Administrative and Financial Document in Excel format and Scientific Document templates in Word format) are available on the ANR website.
The application documents must be submitted by the project leader in electronic format only, before the submission deadline and via the online submission platform on ANR website.
An acknowledgement of receipt, in electronic form, will be sent to the project leader upon submission of the application documents.
