Résumé

A quarter of French people will suffer from a mental pathology during their lifetime. These pathologies, which can begin at a very early age, have a major impact on patients’ daily activities and represent a burden for caregivers, as well as a very high economic cost, which has been estimated at 160 billion euros per year.
Precision medicine is a new field in psychiatry. It represents an innovative approach to the treatment and prevention of mental illness, taking into account the variability of each patient’s genetic terrain, environment and lifestyle.

Inserm and Directorate General of Health Care Provision (DGOS) have created in most French university hospitals research structures, known as Clinical Investigation Centers (CICs), dedicated to the development of translational and clinical research.
As of today, there are no CICs specifically dedicated to psychiatric research. Four CICs are currently developing research in this field, but they are not structurally dedicated to psychiatry. Creating teams in these CICs, specialized in precision psychiatry research, would facilitate the development of clinical research in this field.

The funding allocated under the research program will enable these CICs to be strengthened according to their needs : increased staffing levels, recruitment of personnel with specific skills, purchase of equipment and investment. In this way, the program will create research teams within these CICs, enabling the development of academic and private research in precision psychiatry, in association with the sites’ fundamental research teams.

The main performance indicators for these research teams will be : number of new partnerships, inclusions, publications and projects submitted/accepted to a call for projects, at National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety or Protection of Persons Committee. The number of projects registered on clinicaltrials.gov or equivalent will also be collected.
The ultimate aim will be to develop a model pilot structure that will serve as the basis for an extended network of psychiatric research teams in CICs.
